Switzerland's innovative move
In this era of rapid technological advancement, countries are actively exploring the use of advanced technologies to enhance public services and industrial development. Switzerland, a country known for its innovation and high quality, is also on the move. Swisscom Broadcast has chosen to partner with Nokia to deploy a nationwide Drone-as-a-Service network in Switzerland, an initiative that will revolutionize public safety and industrial development in the country.
Significance of the project
The deployment is planned for 300 Nokia drones, which will be used primarily in the areas of emergency response, perimeter protection and infrastructure inspection. This will not only help ensure the safety of public safety workers, but also improve the situational awareness of first responders in emergency situations. In the first few minutes after an emergency, remotely operated drones can collect relevant information and provide critical support for rescue operations. Meanwhile, for Swiss industry, drones can inspect tall or hard-to-reach infrastructure, avoiding the need for workers to climb or walk in dangerous areas and improving worker safety.

This project will support public safety and Industry 4.0 efforts in Switzerland, highlighting Nokia's strengths in modernizing digital infrastructure projects and leveraging advanced technologies to enable over-the-horizon autonomous operations. Nokia's technology provides robust support for drones to operate stably in a variety of complex environments.
Services and benefits
Swiss public safety agencies will have access to efficient and convenient drone services by requesting drone flights from Swiss Telecom Broadcasting, similar to the carpooling service model. Nokia and Swisscom Broadcasting will also provide them with a range of services, including expertise, compliance, data collection and analysis of collected data.
The deployed UAV network is a turnkey UAV all-in-one solution that integrates UAVs, docking stations, ground control stations, payloads with video and thermal cameras, associated software and service components. The solution also supports interfaces and APIs that allow for easy third-party integration to work seamlessly with traffic monitoring systems, video management software, dispatch solutions, and industrial inspection and process monitoring systems, among others.
Outlook of the partnership
Dominik Müller, CEO of Swisscom Broadcasting, is confident about the collaboration and says he is delighted to have chosen Nokia as a partner for a major infrastructure project that will accelerate the delivery of Drone-as-a-Service offerings to Swiss customers in the industrial and public safety sectors. Combining existing people density tools and drone operations expertise with Nokia's industrial-grade hardware, coupled with an open and future-proof software architecture, will provide important guarantees for the success of large-scale projects.
